The story was published in 1843. A minor official Akaky Akakievich Bashmachkin lives poorly and endures his colleagues’ jokes. His old overcoat has worn out very much, so he decides to buy a new one. To do this the character lives in conditions of austerity, and soon a new overcoat is ready. But it was stolen by robbers.
I think the main idea of the story is the cruelty of society. The most I remember the moment when robbers stole the overcoat from Akaky Akakievich.
This story taught me that you can’t judge a person by his clothes.
