This book is the final book of "Shadow and Bone" and "Siege and Storm" and was published in 2014.
Alina and her friends find the third amplifier - Firebird. But it turns out that the third amplifier wasn't a bird, it was Mal. In the final fight in The Shadow Fold, Alina has to kill Mal (however later he will be resurrected), because of this she loses her powers and gives them away to soldiers, who can now destroy the Fold. At the same time, Alina kills the Darkling and later, she tells her friends to have her declared dead.
At the end of the book, Alina and Mal open an orphanage and live happily.
